Choosing our Guide
“The sun shines not on us but in us. The rivers flow not past, but through us. Thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substance of our bodies, making them glide and sing.
The trees wave and the flowers bloom in our bodies as well as our souls, and every bird song, wind song, and tremendous storm song of the rocks in the heart of the mountains is our song, our very own, and sings our love.” ~ John Muir
We are not above nature, we are intimately connected to her. We cannot set ourselves apart from the earth if we expect to live in harmony with her. And we will not cultivate a meaningful relationship if we do not acknowledge that we are also of her. Like our relationship with nature, all too often we separate from a deep source of guidance - our intuition.
How often have you had the experience of having made a decision in opposition to your inner voice only to later regret that you had not listened? You are not alone. At the source of our disconnection is fertile ground for the seeds of fear. And it is from this place that we allow ourselves to be persuaded to remain in a place of old patterns and be controlled by our fears.
Fear has us choose from a place of lack; it has us believe that there is no other way and no way out. And those who sell it would have us believe that it is the best bargain. Because we cannot forge a new way when we are stuck in an old paradigm. When we are constantly focused on our past, we have no room to create the future. If we remain anchored by a moment of regret or doubt, we cannot joyfully accept the present. When fully illuminated, we can see our fears for what they are - a separation from our intuitive nature.
When we can see that the sun shines not on us but in us; when we listen to the quiet voice within, urging us ever forward, we reconnect to the nature inside. It is not to say that we will not make mistakes, but we will not be disempowered or helpless because of them. Instead we can choose to respond with grace, to move with poise and to see with clarity. May we each come back to our roots.
